Fading to silence…
Fading to silence...
The time has come to fade to silence…
After briefly resurrecting the label last year, I now feel it’s time to shut the doors for good.
Part of the reason for re-opening was that after going through cancer treatment I felt I needed a mission and a project, and the music that I love came to the rescue. And while I’m very happy with the two releases I put out in this period, I have shifted to a desire to make more of my own music. Additionally, there really haven’t been any submissions coming in (there weren’t enough for an all|is|calm compilation last year).
The musical landscape has changed since Free Floating was vibrantly active. Streaming has taken hold as a medium. And Bandcamp has taken off as a platform where artists don’t really need a label to reach their audience.
I will be closing down the Free Floating Bandcamp page to new downloads. All releases will become private so that those who have the music in their library will still have access to downloads (and streaming through the Bandcamp apps). At some point I will close down the Free Floating Bandcamp all together, but I will publish a notice here before I do so.
The releases will be available at the Internet Archive indefinitely. I would hate to have the music disappear. I’m building up pages on this website for the releases so information about them is readily available.
As for me, I’ll be making more of my own music. The spirit of Free Floating will carry on as I do share mixes of subtle beatless ambient music on Spotify. I’ll try to post those on this website.
I am grateful for the artists and fans who made Free Floating something really special. Thank you all.
